1 Timothy 1:5 AV
The end of the commandment
is charity out of a pure heart,
and of a good conscience,
and of faith unfeigned
Devotional
We are always in danger of losing ourselves in sideways, in inessential issues.
Let’s stick to the essentials!
Paul here presents this to his son in faith.
That is, first of all, a clean heart.
Because by nature our hearts are one filthy source of all kinds of wrongdoing. It needs to be renewed. It must not, and cannot, remain as evil as it is, if we want to be saved.
Is that also the main thing in our life?
That’s it for David, “create in me a clean heart, O God.”
That was it for Paul.
That’s it for all of God’s children.
A heart cleansed by the blood and Spirit of Christ.
What comes from that …? Love !
That is the goal (end).
The end of the commandment is love.
True, Divine love can only come from a clean heart.
Only self-love comes from an unclean heart. Although that is sometimes very piously packaged.
But first, the tree must be good, and grow properly.
Then the fruit will be good as well.
Love to God, and love to neighbor.
Love lightens the heaviest burden.
Love from a pure heart, makes the heart long for the moment when all that is here now in part will be perfect.
Do you know that desire too?
