He was a young man, religious, and at the same time had a hatred for Jesus and a hatred for the Christians. And it was he who says: “I saw … in the middle of the day a light on the road, above the brightness of the sun, of heaven, shining around me and those who traveled with me”! (Acts 26:13)
That light was Jesus Christ, meeting Saul from heaven.
That young man’s life changes on that day.
In the light of That Holy Person, Jesus Christ, we learn to see what we are actually doing, just like Saul. And then, like him, we turn around and say, “What do You want me to do?” then the Sun comes into our lives.
The sun went down, and the sun rose
Now about Jacob.
His childhood home was behind him. He was looking for a stone as a pillow. “The sun was going down” and it was dark in his heart too (Genesis 28:11).
He dreams; he sees a ladder up to the sky; what a consolation: God is there! But Jacob doesn’t say, “What do you want me to do?”
At Peniel, God has to break Jacob’s pride; and from now on he walks with a limp. But, “… the sun rose up upon him when he passed through Peniel” (Genesis 31:32).
Sometimes we think, when it rains for a long time: Why must that be done now? But God knows better than we do. And, like the Sun, He wants to break through in our lives.
Let the Son in
If we open our hearts to Him, tell Him all our sins honestly, and also bring our sorrows to Him, then the Son will rise for you too, for you and me. That is, we begin to see who Jesus Christ is in all his riches. Our hearts are full of darkness; but He saith, and now saith it to us, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12).
