Hosea 11:3
Yet it is I who taught Ephraim to walk,
I took them in My arms;
But they did not know that I healed them.
In this verse the Lord shows Himself as a loving father who teaches his son to walk.
Crouching over him, with his big hands he holds the child’s hands.
Step by step He learns it to walk, and catches it when it staggers.
Sometimes he kneels and lures his son to come to him on his own two feet.
And when he succeeds, he lifts it up and presses it gently against him.
Big boy, daddy’s kid!
God uses this image here to show Israel how great His love for His people was and is.
But now…
What he taught him, is now being used to take the wrong path.
The son turns against father, runs away from him. That’s how Israel did.
And what do we do?
The Lord taught us to walk in the path of His commandments.
But where are our footsteps now?
▪︎ On the narrow way to His Kingdom?
▪︎ Or on the broad way that leads to destruction, on the path of sin?
No father has more joy or sorrow because of this, than the LORD.
