Mark 9:44,46 KJV
⁴⁴Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
⁴⁶Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
The New American Standard Bible puts the text of the verses between brackets and has a footnote saying that verse 44 and 46, wich are identical with verse 48, are not found in early manuscripts
Mark 9:44,46 NASB
⁴⁴[where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.]
⁴⁶[where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.]
The Revised Version has a footnote saying that verse 44 and 46 (which are identical with verse 48, and which remains in the text) are omitted by the best ancient authorities.
The reason for omission is that these verses are not found in early manuscripts, and some manuscripts of the ancient versions.
But they do appear in somewhat later sources, some Italic manuscripts and the Vulgate. It is possible that verse 48 was repeated by a copyist as an epistrophe, for an oratorical flourish.
The UBS text assigns this omission a confidence rating of A.
