Luke 24:29 NASB
“Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening,
and the day is now nearly over.”
So He went in to stay with them.
He went in to stay with them.
This is a blessed entrance we read about here.
Jesus comes in, and the result of it will be that their eyes were opened and they started to see who Jesus really is.
Matthew 8:8
But the centurion said,
“Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof,
but just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
The centurion knew that he was not worthy to receive Jesus to come under his roof.
And these two disciples? Were they worthy?
Of course not! Who would be? You and I for sure also not!
No one is worthy that Jesus enters his house.
We have unworthy homes, and we are unworthy hosts.
But inspite of that, He is coming.
He started out in a stable and in a manger.
He took the form of a servant.
He humiliated, yes, destroyed himself to the death of the cross,
to enter unworthy homes and unworthy hearts.
The King came into their home and into their hearts.
And, we have to emphasize that, He came to stay.
The same counts for you and me.
When you invite Jesus, He will come in!
And when He comes, He comes to stay!
He will not just come in, and after seeing the dirt, and poverty that prevails in your life, leave quickly.
No, he comes to stay!
That also was the word from Jesus to Zacchaeus:
Luke 19:5
When Jesus came to the place,
He looked up and said to him,
“Zaccheus, hurry and come down,
for today I must stay at your house.”
I must remain in your house today.
And Jesus went into his house, and into his heart that day.
He came into his heart to stay.
Wherever He comes, there He comes to stay.
Forever and forever He is the King in our hearts.
We may not always feel and perceive that,
but if we did not push Him out, He is there!
