Luke 2:28
So he took it in his arms and praised God.
It was exactly then when the Holy Spirit led Simeon to the temple. The Holy Spirit had taken the lead. And he brought Simeon into the temple exactly when Jesus was brought there by Joseph and Mary.
What a privilege to be led like this to the house of the Lord, exactly when Jesus is there. You know, the ministry of the Word is about Him, and only about Him.
It’s not about anything else, but meeting Him in the preached sermon.
Simeon had a promise that he would not die before he saw the Christ. But the fulfillment of His coming was yet to come. And Simeon had no choice but to wait patiently. He was going to see the fulfillment of the promise that was originally made to the fathers before he died.
Simeon actually is on the border of the Old and New covenants.
Both dispensations come together in this ancient prophet. Especially when Simeon takes the Child in his arms. Then the eye of faith of Simeon sees the fulfillment in this poor Galilean Child: the Messiah has come.
And then he praises God. He makes God great.
Not only because of the personal grace to see the fulfillment of the promise. This certainly would have been included in his praise, but he praises God mainly because of the Child. It is God’s salvation!
