John 3:3
“Truly, truly, I say to you,
unless one is born again
he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Being born again (Greek: gennethe anothen) literally means be begotten from above. This tells us that there must be a transformation from God and a renewal in righteousness and true holiness to be saved.
Compare this with the following verses.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
Ephesians 4:22-23
²²In reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, ²³and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind.
