As I often said when you thanked me for something, you should rather thank God instead of me, as I was only the messenger. And as a messenger of the most high God, and servant of Jesus the Christ, I write this now to you whom have received the same kind of faith as I have.
May God’s grace, peace, and knowledge of Him and of Jesus our Lord be multiplied in you, and may your eyes be opened to the fact that He through the true knowledge of Him, who called you to life by His own glory, and excellence. And by His divine power, He has granted you everything you need to live a fruitful life, and for life in godliness.
God has granted to you His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from lusts and the corruptions that are in the world. Therefore you should apply them with all diligence, in your faith, and supply moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love.
If these qualities are yours, and if they are increasing in you, they will not be useless nor unfruitful to you. And those who lacks these qualities are blind, and short-sighted, or have forgotten all about their purification from their former sins.
Therefore, be diligent to make His calling and His choosing of you certain, for as long as you practice these qualities, you will not stumble, and you will keep an open door to the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
This is also the reason why I, eventhough you already knew, continually reminded you to repent of sin, and to keep following the Christ, so also these qualities could grow in you, and that the truth which is present with you, would be established.
As long as I am in this earthly dwelling, I consider it to be right, to stir you up by way of these kinds of reminders, for I know that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent. And I hope and pray that, at any time after my departure, you will be able to call to mind what I wrote.
For I did not just tell you some stories or tales, when I told you about the urgency to repent and to start following the Christ, and also not when I told you about the power, and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but I told you all those things from a very reliable source.
God Himself declared of Jesus: “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased – listen to Him”.
Be sure of this that all true prophecy of Scripture is not a matter of anyone’s own interpretation, but it came to them, while they were moved by the Holy Spirit, who gave them utterances of the things of God. For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will.
