Today we go back to 1 Corinthians 15.
The famous chapter on the resurrection of the dead.
Apparently there are people in Corinth who do believe in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, but do not see the point of it. In any case, they do not believe that everyone who belongs to Jesus will also rise from the dead with a new body.
Paul argues vehemently:
If the dead are not raised, surely Christ cannot have been raised?
Then you delete Easter! And Easter means that death is conquered, right?
Just as you put a wooden bar over your knee and break it in half with one blow, so Jesus, took death over the knee and broke it with one blow.
Suppose that death, which is the punishment for our sins, would not be defeated, then sin is not really, not completely conquered.
I don’t want to think of it…
Then my faith is in vain.
Then I can never sing again:
“Jesus lives, and we with Him:
death, where has your terror gone?
Jesus lives, and His voice also calls us to life again.”
I don’t want to think of it…
