1 John 3:6
No one who abides in Him sins;
no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him.
This is one of the passages of Scripture that we have a lot of trouble with.
Even if we may know God’s grace in our lives, we know all too well that our lives are far from sinless and that we commit many sins every day.
Young people can sometimes run into this when they hear how the elderly talk about faith and when they compare their words with their deeds. Then this text does not seem to be correct at all.
And yet, it is there. But then we have to know very well what John means here.
He does not mean that children of God are sinless people, but that they cannot endure the life of sin. They are no longer at peace with a sinful life. They want to live according to God’s good commandments.
Time and again humiliation and continual forgiveness are needed.
Do we recognize this in our own lives?
Shall we also fight against sin by faith?
Do it in God’s strength and you will be victorious…
