1 John 3:6
No one who abides in Him sins;
no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him.
Someone once asked me, “Reverend, how can you get to the point where you don’t sin anymore?”
The church member in question had read 1 John 3:6, which says, “Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not.” It is understandable that these words can confuse you.
For in chapter 1:8 it says, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves.”
Would John then contradict himself?
No, he has a purpose in this.
He writes here about ‘doing’ sin. That is, to sin consciously, deliberately. Whoever does that, he says, is of the devil.
There are, children of God, who have sinned on purpose in the past.
Do you recognize that and you?
The devil was in charge of your life.
But that has changed, through the miracle of the new birth.
Christ has loosed your bonds. You don’t sin anymore. You don’t want to and you can’t.
But, are you perfect then?
No, it’s a lifelong struggle.
But in Christ we are more than conquerors!
