Matthew 26:25 KJV
Then Judas, which betrayed him,
answered and said, Master, is it I?
He said unto him, Thou hast said.
Devotional
You said it.
The Lord Jesus says unto Judas, you said it.
With a hardened heart he had asked: Is it me Rabbi? In this way he had wanted to cover himself in his betrayal. Here it appears how unfathomably deep the power of sin is.
He will not reveal himself.
The Lord Christ does it and thus separates him from the circle of the disciples.
That is the emphasis here.
On the act of the suffering Christ.
He knows that He must be delivered into the hands of the people.
The hour of darkness has become reality, in which the Lamb of God must submit to death. That is not the glory of Judas, but of Him. Therefore He Himself disposes of it according to the will of His Father.
The traitor is sent away to his terrible work because the Son of Man must go to pay for the lost.
It is bad for Judas. The measure of his iniquity is full.
He has often been warned. He hasn’t listened. He is not lost without warning.
But now the Lord withdraws His hand. By God’s counsel it must be so.
The Mediator hears His Father’s voice.
Blessed if we get to know Him in this way.
