Matthew 26:22 KJV
And they were exceeding sorrowful,
and began every one of them
to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
Devotional
As Jesus sits at the Passover with His own people, He cannot conceal that one of them will betray Him.
Perhaps we think: shouldn’t this have been better passed on to the disciples?
Was it not a sorrow for them to know that there is a traitor in their midst?
No … they must be called to self-examination.
And how significant that is.
The disciples are grieved.
That marks the sincerity of the disciples (except Judas).
He who is spiritually dead remains indifferent to such proclamations.
At the most, it may scare him.
But he that is truly made for God is grieved by it.
They feel the love in their hearts for their Master.
They cannot bear to have Him betrayed.
They lack much. Most certainly the right knowledge of His suffering and death.
But the love is there. Love brings tears from their hearts.
What a big difference there is with Judas.
He also says: am I the one Rabbi?
But he does not know this sadness.
He misses the main thing.
Love is a great thing.
A gift of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of the loveless.
Have you experienced this?
