But when the Pharisees saw it,
they said unto him,
Behold, thy disciples do that
which is not lawful to do
upon the sabbath day.

That’s an age-old point of contention:
What is allowed and what is not allowed on the day rest?
The Pharisees bring charges to the Lord Jesus against His disciples .
They break the Sabbath commandment according to their rules.
Does that complaint come from love of the Law?
No, out of enmity against Jesus!
So you can condemn Jesus with your hand on the law.
So you can use the Bible to do things not intended by God.
That is a religion of our pious flesh.
Wanting to live by the letter of the law and not needing a savior.
For us Sunday is a means of serving God.
But that is only possible in connection with Him, Who perfectly kept the law; also this commandment.
He is the Lord of the Sabbath.
Let us rejoice, relieved of care, praise Him Who gives us joy!
