These twelve Jesus sent out
and commanded them, saying:
“Do not go into the way of the Gentiles,
and do not enter a city of the Samaritans.

Matthew carefully recorded the names.
Some of them are well known to us, from others we know next to nothing.
Twelve completely different people.
People we wouldn’t have chosen.
But on one point they agree.
None of them have the capacity to take on that great task.
The Lord works with incompetent and unqualified personnel.
And yet they are sent.
Now only to Israel.
Soon to the Gentiles too.
What should become of that?
All, for His strength is made perfect in their weakness.
And if He works, who will turn it back?
People are still being sent out. To places near and far.
And still those who are being sent say, Who is fit for these things?
At the same time they may know: our ability comes from God.
