Matthew 8:27 NASB
The men were amazed, and said,
What kind of a man is this,
that even the winds and the sea obey Him?
Devotional
The Lord is not only the great physician but also the ruler over wind and waves.
I do not know whether you have ever been to the sea in stormy weather.
Then we pause in fear at the sight and hearing of the violence and the noise of the waters, which seem to be unstoppable by any power.
How many of our fishermen’s, or seafarers’ wives have listened with fear in their hearts to the storms, and thought of their loved ones, who may be struggling to save themselves.
Then true rest can only be found when we may lift our eyes above the sky and clouds to Him.
In the same way He can still the storm by which we are in danger of perishing within us, and in its place grant us a sweet peace that surpasses all understanding.
Violent storms may rage about me,
All around me dark as night;
God, my God will still surround me,
Keep me safe and in His sight.
Though the waiting often tried me,
Still His love will keep and guide me,
Through the black and somber night,
He will lead me to the light.
Be it death or be it living,
Smear on honour be my lot,
Jesus’ pow’r to me He’s giving;
I am weak, but strong is God.
Friends who love me and advise me,
Hate of those who will despise me,
Height or depth, whate’er my lot,
Nothing robs me of my God!
