Matthew 7:3 NASB
Why do you look at the speck
that is in your brother’s eye,
but do not notice the log
that is in your own eye?
Devotional
▪︎ The wicked man is apt to look at the splinters in the eyes of others and overlook the beam in his own eye.
▪︎ He worries about minor flaws in the lives of others, and pays little or no attention to the major and gross flaws in his own life.
▪︎ Others are judged haughtily and without love, while great ingenuity is displayed in minimizing one’s own sins.
Thus the Pharisees rebuked others, but overlooked their own evil.
The lineage of these people is not yet extinct.
▪︎ Do you belong to them too?
▪︎ Do you also have so much to criticize about others?
▪︎ Do you put yourself on a pedestal compared to others?
▪︎ Do you overlook your own sin and sky-high guilt?
The Lord, then, by discovering grace, give you true self-knowledge.
May He show you your sins and iniquities.
That makes you gentle with others.
Whoever is allowed to have true self-knowledge does not point out others from the heights, but from love, rightly.
