Matthew 6:24 NASB
No one can serve two masters;
for either he will hate the one and love the other,
or he will be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and wealth.

No other gods …
Don’t think it’s easy to discover those other gods.
They really don’t walk around with a sign saying “I’m an idol.”
The Lord Jesus therefore thought it important, for example, to warn especially for one such sneaky ‘other god’: Mammon, or the god of money and possessions: “You cannot serve God and Mammon.”
But why does Jesus choose Mammon as an example?
I think that’s pretty clear.
▪︎ Who isn’t busy with money, and preferably: even more money?
▪︎ Who doesn’t like nice clothes,
▪︎ Who doesn’t like a nice bike (or car), etc?
All is not bad in itself, but watch out for the Mammon.
There is hardly any other god, that we fall for more easily than this one.
Notice that Jesus says:
“No one can serve two masters.”
He doesn’t say, “It’s hard.”
No, it just can’t.
The Mammon himself knows that, but his tactic is to present it differently.
For example, “Put Jesus at the top, but take me with you.
After all, you shouldn’t exaggerate that religious thing either…”
So pay attention:
Are you sure that you are not bothered by the Mammon?
