Matthew 12:31
Wherefore I say unto you,
All manner of sin and blasphemy
shall be forgiven unto men:
but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost
shall not be forgiven unto men.
Devotional
For one sin there is no forgiveness and no forgiveness is sought: the blasphemy against the Spirit.
The mark of those who blaspheme the Spirit is that they do not suffer from it at all, and therefore do not beg for forgiveness.
The Bible commentary says, “This sin against the Holy Spirit is when a man, not out of weakness or fear like Peter, or out of ignorance like Paul, forsakes or fights the gospel truth, but only out of hatred and wantonness, against the conviction the Holy Ghost, resist, blaspheme, and persecute.”
The Pharisees were guilty of this sin, maliciously calling the healing performed by Christ the work of the devil.
Out of willful hardening, they attributed the casting out of the devil, to Beelzebub.
Satan can torment God’s children with the thought of having committed this one unpardonable sin. What a burden they can have with that.
But he who fears to have committed this sin has not done it.
Whoever has committed this great evil does not suffer from it,
Whoever has committed this great evil is given over to the hardening.
