Matthew 5:6 NASB
Blessed are those who hunger
and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.
Devotional
As long as the human heart is not numbed by the power of sin, there is a hunger and thirst within it. A burning desire for satisfaction.
One seeks it in sensual pleasure, the other in work, distraction, or domestic happiness.
But this world has no bread for the deepest hunger of soul, and the thirst that consumes the human heart is quenched by no earthly source. Then, when all else has left him unsatisfied, man flees irresistibly to the face of God.
Then he stammers: ‘O God, have mercy on me, a sinner!’
The history of every soul fleeing to God in humility proves it:
He has filled the hungry with good things, He has sent away the rich empty.
The contented, the complacent do not invite the King of heaven.
They do not ask for Him, nor desire His salvation.
All who feel how much they lack, all who realize that their place at the wedding banquet can only be filled with eternal righteousness, they are watered by Him from the Fountain that never ceases to flow.
Are you also thirsty for God, my friend?
Does your heart hunger for His peace?
Whoever comes to Him He will by no means cast out.
They will be satisfied.
