Matthew 4:13 NASB
Leaving Nazareth,
He came and settled in Capernaum,
which is by the sea,
in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.
Study
The town of Capernaum (K-par Naoum – village of Nahum) is almost identical to present-day Tell-Hum and was located about 2.5 mi (about 4 km) west of the point where the Jordan flows into the Sea of Galilee on the northwestern shore.
It was one of the most important cities in the Galilee.
▪︎ There was a synagogue (Mark 1:21),
▪︎ a Roman police post (compare Matthew 8:5-13)
▪︎ and a border office (Matthew 9:9).
Jesus left Nazareth when the people in His hometown rejected Him (Luke 4:14-31). A deeper cause of the move has to do with the prophecy of Isaiah (Matthew 4:14,15: land of Zebulun and Naphtali).
