Matthew 3:2 NASB
Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand
Devotional
John the Baptist preached in the wilderness of Judea.
That desert was a striking picture of the condition of land and people.
There was much religion, but little fear of God.
John the Baptist’s preaching was not flattering, not soul-pleasing.
He did not weaken the demands of God’s Word.
His preaching was terrifying and soul-searching.
The demand of true repentance was made: ‘Repent’.
Away with idols, away with self-righteousness.
Do not rely on outward privileges.
Heart and life, meaning and will must change.
There must be true penance and repentance.
The proud heart must be broken.
The self-righteous spirit must be defeated.
Are you burdened by not wanting or being unable to repent?
It drives you out to the Lord, who is the first in the life of His own.
He allows you to become poor, to fill with goods.
He allows you to be unconverted in order to repent.
He allows you to become lost in live in order to save.
Do you know a heartfelt aversion to sin, and a heartfelt desire and love to live according to the will of God?
