Matthew 1:16 NASB
Jacob was the father of Joseph
the husband of Mary,
by whom Jesus was born,
who is called the Messiah.
Devotional
Mary, of whom was born Jesus.
The family tree of Jesus. A begat B. B begat C.
And so on. How monotonous. Begat. That is, begotten.
An active act of man. And the result?
Received and born in sin!
Monotonous. Always the same old song.
And it won’t change unless …
And then suddenly verse 16. The monotony is broken.
Suddenly. Surprisingly.
And Jacob begat Joseph. And Joseph begat… No, it doesn’t say that! It says: Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus!
Not an active act of man.
Joseph is passive. He’s at the sideline.
God makes a point. It’s enough like this.
It can no longer be like this. God intervenes.
Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus.
God grants the Saviour!!
Like a doctor visits a primitive tribe.
Those people were totally deprived of medical help.
They had no doctor. No clinic.
But now a doctor comes.
Now a clinic is being built.
And the doctor is there for everyone.
He is available to operate.
To provide medicines.
To give advice.
That is how Jesus came to this earth to save.
And He says, Whoever comes to me I will never turn away!
