Few psalms speak to the people as strongly as the twenty-third.
Almost every sentence is a message full of comfort.
It is the psalm of practice, which has something to say about every aspect of life.
When the Lord has become our Shepherd we receive:
A complete satisfaction –
“I lack nothing”.
A perfect rest –
“He makes me lie down in green pastures.”
A complete quenching of our thirst –
“He leads me to calm waters.”
A Perfect Healing –
“He refreshes my soul.”
A Perfect Guide –
“He’s leading me on the right track.”
Perfect Protection –
“I fear no harm”.
A Perfect Companion –
“For you are with me”.
A perfect consolation –
“Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
A perfect diet –
“You prepare a table for me”.
Perfect Sanctification –
“You anoint my head with oil.”
A perfect joy –
“My cup is overflowing”.
Perfect care –
“Salvation and mercy will follow me”.
A Perfect Future –
“I will abide in my lord’s house until the end of days.”
Have you ever noticed that there is not a single harsh word in this psalm? God does not speak of our sins; He does not accuse us, He only shows what He wants to do, and can be for us. God offers all of this to us without making a single requirement.
Perfect grace.
