Ruth 1:3 NASB
Then Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died;
and she was left with her two sons.
Devotional
A well-known song calls to us: “Count Your Blessings”
Sometimes you meet people who have changed that song to “count your misfortunes”.
They often sing that and live by it.
It is the people, who always talk about what is against them in life.
It’s the people who put a damper on everything.
It is not easy for anyone who is like that or who has to hang out with such a person.
It is not for nothing that the Heidelberg Catechism (44) says that we have to struggle all our lives against ‘our sinful nature’!
Of course a person may have his sorrow, but let us still see our blessings even in the greatest sorrow.
Naomi loses her husband in the foreign land, but… her two sons were still left to her.
Children can never replace a father or mother, but they can be of great support. And whatever sorrow befalls us, someone who could talk about it from his own life learned to sing…. “but the Lord will give a way out.”
