Mark 9:21 AV
And he asked his father,
How long is it ago since this came unto him?
And he said, Of a child.
Generally, we would rather go to a wedding than to a sick bed, let alone a funeral. We find it easier to take part in a feast than to speak a word of comfort and encouragement when acquaintances have concern, and sadness.
This is not the case with Jesus. And not only that, He is moved by the suffering of the people, but He also knows how to speak the right word in the right place.
Let’s just notice how He deals with the grieving father here, who comes to seek healing for his tried son.
It can be such a relief to be allowed to show all our suffering to others. The Lord allows this here too. He can listen. And already in this the heart that perceives this finds relief.
However, the Lord can also speak. And when He does, it is a word of hope that only requires faith.
And when the latter is present, even if it is so small, as was the case with this father, and he could only say, Lord I believe, come to the aid of my unbelief, then He also speaks of salvation and healing and we stand soon for the miracle of his omnipotence and mercy.
