Mark 9:7 AV
And there was a cloud that overshadowed them:
and a voice came out of the cloud,
saying, This is my beloved Son:
hear him.
A voice from the excellent glory, thus describes the apostle Peter later these words spoken by the Father on the Mount of Transfiguration. (2 Peter 1:17)
What a meeting that was!
Jesus clothed in shining garments, white as snow.
And with him were Moses and Elijah, speaking of his going out to Jerusalem.
Peter saw these three men as the three great prophets.
Therefore, he wanted to make three tents.
One for each of these three.
But then a voice comes from heaven.
This is my beloved Son.
As if he was corrected: “No, Simon Peter, they are not equal. Not Moses and Elijah on par with Jesus. They are not similar. This is my Beloved Son!
I have sent him as the supreme Prophet. Hear Him!
There is no other to whom we should listen.
He alone makes the way of salvation fully known, not only outwardly through preaching, but especially inwardly through the Spirit.
No one has ever seen God except He who was in the bosom of the Father.
Who else would we covet but Him alone?
It also sounds to us today: Hear Him!
