Hosea 4: 1 NASB
Listen to the word of the Lord, O sons of Israel,
For the Lord has a case against the inhabitants of the land,
Because there is no faithfulness or kindness
Or knowledge of God in the land.
Israel gets a subpoena at home: it has to come before the Judge.
Before the Judge, Who is no stranger to the people.
He is the God Who established the covenant with the people.
He is the God Who has done only good to that people.
That makes the charge all the more serious.
Because against all His goodness, the people have only done evil.
All the offenses together form one black register: swearing, lying, killing, stealing, etc.
And the worst thing is: there is no knowledge of God in the country.
Israel no longer knows her God …
No mitigating circumstances can be invoked here.
This also applies to us!
We too don’t have any mitigating circumstances for us to appear before the Judge.
Who can stand when God looks at our iniquities?
Nobody! Unless…
Unless the debt has already been paid, unless the debt has already been taken away by the Blood sacrifice of Jesus, God’s Son.
Who can exist?
There is only one option:
Pray for grace and forgiveness of sins.
