1 Timothy 2:1-8
¹First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, ²for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
³This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, ⁴who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
⁵For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, ⁶who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
⁷For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
⁸Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.
When we observe the godless condition of our world, of our country, of our city, yes even of the street where we live in, we can quickly recognize the need for a drastic change.
But the biblical solution for our predicament is surprising.
In his first letter to Timothy, Paul instructed his brother to establish some priorities in the church, including prayer “for kings and all who are in authority” (1 Timothy 2:2).
Our petitions help us live a tranquil and godly life, and also provide opportunities to tell others about the Savior (1 Timothy 2:2-4).
Paul would never have given this command to Timothy, if he didn’t believe that the church’s prayers made a difference in achieving God’s purposes for their nation.
▪︎ Our problem is not with the Lord’s promise
▪︎ our problem is not with the Lord’s power,
▪︎ our problem is with our doubt..!
Our problem is with our doubt in His promise, and in His power.
▪︎ Instead of focusing on, and trusting in His promise, we focus on the enormity of the problems.
▪︎ Instead of focusing on, and leaning on His power, we focus on the power of those in office.
▪︎ Instead of having our vision on our Father, we have lost sight of our sovereign God, Who is waiting for us to turn to Him, and Who is listening for our pleas, so He can intervene.
Remember that political policies and legislation are ultimately not determined in a conference room or in governmental chambers, but in prayer closets.
The voice that shapes the direction of a nation is not necessarily the voice of those that sound loud in legislative halls, but the soft voices, in those prayer closets, that approach the throne room of the heavenly Father with bold faith.
When we believe and pray, the Lord will respond..!
You may be wondering why our Lord has waited so long to intervene,
▪︎ but maybe He is waiting for you to ask,
▪︎ maybe He is already working in ways we don’t recognize or understand.
God can change a country, your and my country as well.
And we know that every authority on earth is subject to Him.
Your and my prayer can make a difference, but we need to be willing to ask and believe God.
