one pearl of great price,
went and sold all that he had,
and bought it.

The merchant has already seen many pearls.
Beautiful pearls. Pure pearls. Precious pearls.
But now he discovers a pearl, so precious, that it is beyond his knowledge. It is a pearl with an unprecedented and great shine. Worth a fortune.
It is a pearl of great value.
The Lord sometimes lets us find pearls of value.
I think of the wedding pearl.
Or at the pearl of the children’s blessing.
Isn’t our health also an exquisite pearl?
Yet this is a pearl that surpasses all others in value.
This is about the value of the Kingdom of God.
Above all, this is about the incomparable value of King Jesus.
He is the Pearl of Great Price!
He is much fairer than the children of men (Psalm 45:3).
He is the expressed Image of God’s independence.
He answers perfectly to the glory of God.
Oh, Jesus is the Pearl of great price.
To what shall we compare Him?
In Him is salvation and eternal life.
He is the Mediator of God and of men.
What value is His atoning sacrifice.
What sufficiency there is in His blood.
From whatever side the Christ pearl is seen, all that is in Him is absolutely desirable.
