John 8:31-32
³¹Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; ³²and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
What is true freedom?
And are you free?
● If you do not really want to do something, but you are going to do it anyway, then you are not doing it freely. You can of course gather all willpower to do, what you actually don’t want to do, but nobody would call that real freedom. We don’t want to live that way, then we feel limited, and then there is pressure on us, and that is something we don’t want.
● If you want to do something, but you cannot do it, then too you cannot do it freely.
● If you want to do something, and you can do it, but you don’t get the chance, you also can’t do it freely.
● If you have the desire, the strength, and the ability to do something, but what you are going to do, will eventually cause you to collapse, you cannot do it freely. In all these cases you are not really free.
To be really free
▪︎ you must have the desire,
▪︎ you must be able,
▪︎ it must be within your strength,
▪︎ and it must be within your possibilities,
to do what will make you happy forever.
Only Jesus, the son of God, who died for us and rose again, can make that possible.
Only if the Son sets you free, you are really and truly free.
