Question:
What is the difference between speaking in tongues and diversities of tongues?
I once told someone be that the Apostles spoke tongues that were understood by other nationalities and he responded by saying that is gift of diversities of tongues.
Answer:
● Speaking in tongues
I wrote about this yesterday, but many did not want to hear, and were offended by it.
And as I don’t want this group to turn in a group with people with hot heads and cold hearts, I removed it again this morning.
I gave the message, people read it, and what they further will do with it is their own responsibility.
● Diversities of tongues.
This comes from the first epistle to the Corinthians.
1 Corinthians 12:28
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, DIVERSITIES OF TONGUES.
The word diversities is translated from the Greek word γενος, genos, (pronounced as: ghen’-os), meaning “kin”.
This can be understood in abstract or concrete, literal or figurative, individual or collective way.
It is translated as: born, country(-man), diversity, generation, kind(-red), nation, offspring, and stock.
So this also could be translated as:
• languages after their kin, or offspring,
• languages according to their nations,
• languages according to their generations.
