Joshua saw in his generation, more and more people waver between the gods of their forefathers, and the God who led them out of Egypt, So he did an urgent call on them to make a choice.
He urged them to FEAR THE LORD and SERVE HIM and to put away the other manmade gods. He called on them to SERVE THE LORD in sincerity and truth.
“But”, he said, “If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, then CHOOSE FOR YOURSELVES TODAY whom you will serve… whether you want to serve the fake gods which your fathers served, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living”.
As if he said to them: “If you want to serve satan, and throw away your life, go ahead”, and added to that “but as for ME AND MY HOUSE, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD.”
He made his choice! Did you already?
Joshua 24:14-15 (KJV) — ²⁴Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. ²⁵And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Years before Joshua, Moses did the same call in Deuteronomy 30 where he again commanded the people to love the Lord, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments so that God could bless them in the land they where entering to possess it.
And he warned that if they allowed their hearts to turn away from God, and if they would not obey, but follow other gods, that they would surely perish. And he called on heaven and earth to witness against them for their choice.
Deuteronomy 30:16-20 (KJV) — ¹⁶In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. ¹⁷But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; ¹⁸I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it. ¹⁹I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: ²⁰That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
Like Moses and Joshua, I today too, set before you the same choice.
And like the people of Israel in those days, you have to choose too.
• Between LIFE and DEATH,
• Between BLESSING and the CURSE.
• Between Jesus and anything else that is or was your idol
I urge you to CHOOSE LIFE in order that you may live,
I urge you to LOVE the Lord God,
I urge you to OBEY Him,
I urge you to HOLD FAST to Him.
Like in those days God promised them the land, God has in these days a rich promise for His followers as well; for did not God CHOOSE THE POOR of this world TO BE RICH in faith, and heirs of the kingdom, which He promised to those WHO LOVE HIM? (James 2:5)
