Ekklesia (Greek: ἐκκλησία)
The term “ekklesia” in the Bible
In the Septuagint (the Greek translation of the Old Testament), the word “ekklesia” is regularly used to designate the assembly of the people of Israel.
In the New Testament, on the other hand, the term is mainly used as an indication for the church of God – so all believers together form the ekklesia.
A related New Testament use of the term “ekklesia” is that of a concrete group of believers in one place.
