Matthew 12:38
Then certain of the scribes
and of the Pharisees answered, saying,
Master, we would see a sign from thee.
Devotional
The question for a sign is a typical Jewish question.
The Jews desire a sign, writes Paul.
The Pharisees politely dress their question. “Master,” they say.
Does that mean they recognize Him as greater them?
If so, they wouldn’t ask for a sign anymore.
For how many signs has He already given?
People healed, food multiplied …
Isn’t all that enough?
The answer is therefore obvious!
No other sign but the sign of Jonah the prophet will be given to them.
He Himself will be the Sign.
A Sign that will be contradicted.
How many signs have there been in our life?
Prosperity and adversity, health and sickness…
Disbelief never gets tired of the signs.
Faith needs no sign.
