1 John 3:11
For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning,
that we should love one another;
If this passage is about being born of God, then it is also about love of one’s neighbor. Those things are just inseparable. So much so that we know we are born of God when we love the brethren, vs. 14.
The passing from death into life is characterized in that love. And especially in the love of the brothers.
He who is born of God loves others who are born of God. Here something emerges of Him Who in love unspeakable gave Himself.
Worthy of consideration here is Luther’s remark: ‘For example, they do not use many big words, but consider themselves to be pupils who barely started and still have to learn every day. Watch out for big noise.’
