Luke 24:1-8
¹But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.
²And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, ³but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
⁴While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing; ⁵and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living One among the dead?
⁶He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, ⁷saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”
⁸And they remembered His words,
Sunday, The first day of the week.
On that day Jesus rose from the dead.
Every Sunday we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
Every Sunday we celebrate His victory over death.
Why is death here?
Because of sin.
“Adam!” God said, “From every tree of the garden you may eat as much as you like, but do not touch the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. For the moment you eat from it you will surely die.”
But Adam and Eve ate.
Since then death has been here.
Centuries later, Paul writes to the Roman congregation, “Death is the wages of sin” (Romans 2:17).
But now the miracle!
It will be different for those who believe wholeheartedly in the Lord Jesus.
Then death is no longer a punishment for sin. Because Jesus wanted to bear that punishment.
We still have to die, but then death is a gateway to eternal life!
No, death never becomes a friend, but whenever the creed is read in church, you may say with your mouth and heart, “I believe in the resurrection of the body.” What a wonderful prospect!
