1 John 2:15
Do not love the world
nor the things in the world.
If anyone loves the world,
the love of the Father is not in him.
The love, which Johannes writes about here, is the search for one’s own pleasure, apart from God, without taking into account the fellow man. That love has nothing to do with God’s love for the world lost in guilt, what He gave His Son for.
The central theme in the world has remained the same in all times: desire.
Desire for more and more beautiful, for physical satisfaction and for honor and prestige.
These lusts are like slave-drivers, who are constantly chasing men.
It makes restless, loveless and heartless.
How foolish it is to satisfy these desires. That’s a bottomless pit.
The world is passing.
Everything that looks so desirable melts like snow in the sun.
The only thing that has real value is doing the will of God, following Him, serving Him, loving Him. That life lasts forever. What do you desire?
