1 Corinthians 15:1-4
¹Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, ²by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
³For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, ⁴and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
In today’s Bible passage we read: Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures…and was raised the third day according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:4).
At the time Paul wrote this to the Corinthian church, the Bible was not yet available as a book. The parts that were ready then, were written on paper rolls. That is why Paul speaks of ‘the Scriptures’. And by that he means what we now call the Old Testament. Everything that has happened to Jesus now, you will come across there, says Paul.
For example, in chapter 53 of the book of Isaiah, we read: He was mistreated and willingly humiliated. But it also says: He will see the light.
Do you hear in it the promise of His resurrection? He will live, He will see the victory! Death is going to lose it.
That has now become a reality, writes Paul.
Really, you can believe it!
The Lord has risen indeed! Hallelujah!
