1 Kings 2:3
Keep the charge of the Lord your God,
to walk in His ways,
to keep His statutes,
His commandments,
His ordinances,
and His testimonies,
according to what is written in the Law of Moses,
that you may succeed in all that you do
and wherever you turn
The verses we read today take us to a death chamber.
There are parting words spoken.
It is a privilege to be able to talk to each other in a death chamber.
What a blessing it is, if good advice is still given there by the dying person.
We hear the dying father David tell his son Solomon to walk in the ways of the LORD, heeding and living by the commandments and judgments of God.
As a father, David had to point this out to his son during his life (see Deuteronomy 6), here he does it for the last time.
Is any of this reflected in our lives?
When children are entrusted to our care, in the family, at (Sunday) school or club, do they hear in our healthy years, with Whom they can and should live?
Do they hear that from us when we have to say goodbye to them?
Besides, if someone has pointed us to God’s Word, whether in life or at death, what did we do with those words?
