1 John 1:3
what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also,
so that you too may have fellowship with us;
and indeed our fellowship is with the Father,
and with His Son Jesus Christ.
What we have seen and heard, we declare to you.
The Apostle John is concerned with the pure proclamation of the Word.
All kinds of opponents of that Gospel have crept into the church, but he wants to warn the church against erroneous teachings and stick to the pure Gospel.
- He himself was convinced of that Gospel by the Holy Spirit.
- He was a disciple of the Lord Jesus.
- He has heard the Lord Jesus preach and seen His miracles.
- He is a living witness to that.
And it is precisely from the love of Christ that church members want to keep to that Gospel and inflict others. He proclaims what he has heard and seen. Paul would say: the love of Christ compels us. We cannot help proclaiming what we have seen and heard.
If we also know the love of Christ, we would like others to share in it too.
So shall we be living witnesses as well?
