Matthew 13:44
The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field,
which a man found and hid again;
and from joy over it he goes
and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Devotional
The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure, hidden in the field.
Yet another aspect of the Kingdom of Heaven is addressed in this parable.
The Lord Jesus likens His Kingdom to a treasure. That is to teach us the inestimable value of the Kingdom of God.
Does that Kingdom have value?
Many see nothing in it.
The service of the Lord, living according to and by His Word, is in their eyes a poor and narrow life.
Many think that living within the confines of that Empire is a hard duty and a sighing existence.
They pretend that following King Jesus is precept upon precept and rule upon rule. But luckily, they get it wrong.
Paul, and he should know, writes, “Godliness is a great gain with contentment.”
And Moses, having seen a great deal, knew to appreciate the kingdom of God: “Esteeming the reproach of Christ, greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the recompense of reward.’
A good report may be given of the Lord and His service.
But… you can present the most beautiful painting to a blind man, but he will not be able to see anything of it. That’s how it is with us. The Kingdom of Heaven is a hidden treasure. It must be revealed to us.
