1 Kings 4:21
And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms
from the river unto the land of the Philistines,
and unto the border of Egypt:
they brought presents,
and served Solomon all the days of his life.
Devotional
Today we read how great the kingdom of Solomon was.
That great empire of Solomon, where the people then live in peace under their vine and their fig tree, can only stand by the might of many horses, horsemen and chariots.
It is peace through power.
And the luxury of an extensive court such as Solomon had, he could only afford by imposing heavy taxes on the people.
Later it turns out that this was not a wise policy of Solomon.
His son is reaping the bitter fruits in the revolt of many.
Unfortunately, this is how it sometimes goes in this world: those who are in power, want to rule.
Then the other is only there for them.
Dictators stumble over that.
But even as a single person you can regret such an attitude to life.
It becomes different when we serve the greater Solomon: He gives true peace and He does not ask, no He gives!
Question
- Have you already become a different person because of Him?
