Philippians 1:21
For to me,
to live is Christ
and to die is gain.
Devotional
When can we actually adopt Paul’s jubilation?
Many repeat after him without understanding the deeper meaning.
When does life become our Christ?
▪︎ Then, if we love Him with the deepest love of our heart.
▪︎ If in Him we find our joy, our salvation, our everything,
▪︎ When we can count as loss, everything that the earth offers us, for the excellent privilege of having the Christ.
If we cannot say this yet, then the obvious question is:
▪︎ What then is our life and fills our heart?
▪︎ What then do we pursue, or think we have found as our highest possession?
Shall we make it clear to ourselves, that all that we think we possess besides Christ, however fervently desired, is no more than polished misery?
But the Apostle speaks not only of living, but also of dying.
Nowhere, but in the face of death, is the poverty and misery of those who have no savior for their hearts, no savior in their agony of death, seen so clearly.
Let us go to Him, Who will be all things in life and death, no, is all for those who have received Him.
Yes, even before dying!
He has nullified the judgment.
He wants to lead us into His heaven, and cause us to inherit eternal life.
