Deuteronomy 10:19 NASB
So show your love for the alien,
for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

Do you also hate birthdays?
When you’re with friends and you have a nice conversation you can’t ask for anything better of course. But there are those parties where you are frantically making up excuses to leave. Especially when your uncle on your left and the neighbor on your right start talking about some of those chewed-up topics.
Very often it concerns asylum seekers. “I also understand that those people have a hard time in their own country, but…” and then something comes up that shows that they don’t understand it at all.
The Bible is actually quite simple about it.
It is said: Remember that you yourself were a stranger in Egypt.
And that is precisely what is so difficult for us. We take it for granted that we ourselves are well and do not want to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes.
Well, next time you could send a card instead of going to a birthday party. But perhaps you could also submit this text to your uncle and the neighbor, without getting cocky.
Perhaps by mentioning it, and asking them if they think it still has anything to say to us these days. Then I think, it won’t be a boring birthday!
