John 19:13-18 NASB
¹³Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
¹⁴Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!”
¹⁵So they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”
The Crucifixion
¹⁶So he then handed Him over to them to be crucified.
¹⁷They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha. ¹⁸There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between.
Come, take up your cross, and follow me.
А young woman thought that her cross was unbearable.
Someone suggested she exchange it for an attractive one, more to her liking.
She considered various types of crosses. No two of them were exactly alike.
▪︎ Some appeared light and glamorous; others, heavy and rugged. She discovered each of the other crosses, attractive though they had at first seemed, was no easier to bear.
▪︎ The cross of suffering and pain her mother carried patiently was beyond the girl’s endurance.
▪︎ Her sister’s cross looked light, until she lifted it and found it laden with sorrow.
▪︎ A neighbor’s cross was burdened, she found, with hidden trials.
She was soon glad to bear patiently the cross she already had.
Jesus was called upon to bear an undeserved cross – the cross of suffering and shame. Though crucified on it, He was yet victorious over it through the power exercised by God the Father.
God is mindful of the crosses we are called upon to bear.
He knows our strength and our weakness.
In Christ, we, too, can be victorious.
Prayer suggestions
▪︎ Thank the Lord for the cross you are called upon to bear.
▪︎ Ask the Lord that you may find strength this day to bear it willingly.
