and she tied the scarlet cord in the window.

“She bound the scarlet line in the window.”
Rahab depended for her preservation upon the promise of the spies, whom she looked upon as the representatives of the God of Israel.
Although her faith was simple and firm, it was above this very obedient.
To tie the scarlet line in the window was in itself a very trivial act, but she dared not run the risk of omitting it.
Listen carefully!
Is here not here a lesson for you?
Have you been attentive to all of your Lord’s will, even though some of His commands should seem non-essential?
When you neglect the seemingly non-essential parts of God’s will for your life, it may show that there is some kind of unloving disobedience in your heart.
Be blameless in all things, even in small things like the tying of a thread, if that be matter of command. In Rahab’s case it saved her life.
This act of Rahab gives us a more solemn lesson.
▪︎ Do I implicitly trust in the precious blood of Jesus?
▪︎ Did, and do I tie my scarlet cord, as with a Gordian knot in my window, so that my trust can never be removed?
▪︎ Can I look out, towards the Dead Sea of my sins?
▪︎ or can I look out, towards the Jerusalem of my hopes?
▪︎ Can I do that without seeing the blood?
▪︎ Can I do that without seeing all things in connection with its blessed power?
Anyone who passed by her house, could see this scarlet cord hanging from her window. It was a conspicuous act. But for her it brought salvation.
In the same way it is good for your salvation when your decision to follow Jesus is conspicuous, and clearly visible for all who see you.
What is there to be ashamed of?
Let men or devils gaze if they will.
We can boast in the blood of Jesus
My friend, even when from weakness of faith, you can not see it yourself, there is One who will see that scarlet line in your life.
And like God passed over Rahab and her house, when He destroyed Jericho, He will, when He comes with His judgment to the city where you live (be it Sodom, Gomorrah, or Jericho), see your scarlet cord, and pass over you.
Jericho’s walls fell flat.
Rahab’s house was on the wall, and yet it stood unmoved.
Our nature is built into the wall of humanity, and yet …
When the destruction of God’s wrath smites the world, we shall be secure.
My friend, if your scarlet cord is not hanging from your window now, if it is not visible that you belong to Jesus, then hang your cord out again!
Although people are living like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, or like in the days of Noah, and we know that the destruction of God’s wrath is imminent, you can live without fear and have peace in your heart!
Tie that scarlet cord in the window afresh, and live in the peace that only God can give you.
