Mark 09:24 AV
And straightway
the father of the child cried out,
and said with tears,
Lord, I believe;
help thou mine unbelief.
Can You Rejoice because you have healthy children?
Be very grateful for it.
Also empathize with those who have disabled children.
The sick boy’s father knows a lot about this.
What is this father doing? He puts his boy in the best place, namely with Jesus.
That father was disappointed that the disciples had not been able to help his boy. Now he has come to Jesus.
And He says, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes.”
On these words the father then reacts with: “I believe, help my unbelief”.
So that father declares that he believes, and yet he confesses that he is unbelieving. This seems to contradict each other.
Nevertheless, all of God’s children experience the same in their lives.
Calvin says of this:
“For because there is nowhere complete faith, it follows that the children of God are in part unbelieving; yet so much God forgives us according to His goodness that He takes us believers according to a very small measure of faith.”
John Calvin
