Hosea 13:4 NASB
Yet I have been the Lord your God
Since the land of Egypt;
And you were not to know any god except Me,
For there is no savior besides Me.
Here again, on one side God’s affection for His people strikes us, and on the other side simultaneously His severity .
There are tears of emotion as well as the teeth of destruction.
Hosea 13:1 NASB
When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling.
He exalted himself in Israel,
But through Baal he did wrong and died.
When Ephraim is heard in awe by the other tribes by God’s blessing, he does not remain small but grows tremendously in his own eyes.
And with him also idolatry grows.
Sins against the 1st and 2nd commandments.
Hosea 13:3 NASB
Therefore they will be like the morning cloud
And like dew which soon disappears,
Like chaff which is blown away from the threshing floor
And like smoke from a chimney.
The LORD will cause Ephraim to become like chaff and smoke, a cloud and vapor.
Just blow and it’s gone.
Blowing seems harmless; At first sight it seems not to be to bad!
But the teeth of ripping animals take away that hope.
Hosea 13:7-8 NASB
So I will be like a lion to them;
Like a leopard I will lie in wait by the wayside.
I will encounter them like a bear robbed of her cubs,
And I will tear open their chests;
There I will also devour them like a lioness,
As a wild beast would tear them.
As much as the Lord loves his people,
He is not mocked with gods beside Him.
