Hosea 10: 13-14 NASB
¹³You have plowed wickedness,
you have reaped injustice,
You have eaten the fruit of lies.
Because you have trusted in your way,
in your numerous warriors,
¹⁴Therefore a tumult will arise among your people,
And all your fortresses will be destroyed (spoiled),
As Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel in the day of battle,
When mothers were dashed in pieces with their children.
But you are like a farmer who has planted bad things. So your harvest is trouble. You have worked hard to deceive people, so now your food will be lies! But you believed that you could help yourselves. And you have trusted in your own strength. You believed that your own soldiers could help you.
Your people will hear the noise of war. Your enemies will destroy your strong places. It will be like the time that King Shalman destroyed Betharbel city in war. At that time, people killed mothers with their children.
Israel has not become more faithful or pious over the years. The opposite is the case. Hence those approaching thumping soldier boots. Threat of war!
Relying on heroes and new weapons is out of place.
Israel will be overrun.
Mothers are crying, Children are weeping.
The elderly among us know all too well what war violence is all about.
But do we also know what Paul is writing
1 Corinthians 10: 5-12
⁵Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness.
⁶Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved.
⁷Don’t be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to play.”
⁸Nor let us act immorally, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day.
⁹Nor let us try the Lord, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the serpents.
¹⁰Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
¹¹Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
¹²Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.
The history of Israel serves us as an example and a warning, so we may have no desire for evil.
The threat of war, could also hang over our heads, because we did not repent, or do you think that humanity today is so advanced that there are no wars anymore?
You can still flee to the Lord!
He is a Refuge for His own.
